National Handloom Day

Since 2015 , August 7  was designated to celebrate National Handloom Day. The date was specifically chosen as an ode to the Swadeshi Movement which was launched on 7th August 1905 and encouraged indigenous industries, particularly handloom weavers.

The main goal is to pay tribute to the huge handloom community in the country for their contribution to carrying on the traditional heritage and ensuring financial stability. The purpose of National Handloom Day is to encourage sustainable practises, maintain India's cultural history, and strengthen national pride and identity.
